College Essay

The car screeches to a halt as I jump out of my car and race to the mailbox.  I grab the stack of mail and run into the house.  “Is today the day?” I anxiously thought to myself, sorting through, looking for my name on a letter.  Finally I found it: a letter from the UNL college.  I opened the letter quickly and started skimming it.  I was accepted into their college!
I’m only in eighth grade, but going to college has always been a huge dream of mine since I was young.  I’ve always imagined the day of coming home and finding an acceptance letter to UNL, the college I’ve always wanted to go to.  UNL College isn’t only important to me, but it’s also now a history to my family.  My dad and my uncle went to UNL College to make their dreams come true, along with my four cousins, 2 of them still currently students.  I would also love to go to UNL because I know it has a great learning program.  Along with my family history, going to college would still be a great experience.
College is important to me because I think it’s very crucial to get a further education.  Also, college can assure me that I can have a well-planned future.  Besides getting more intelligent, college is a great time in my life to learn how to be myself, because my parents won’t always be there telling me what to do or how to help me.  I would have to make my own decisions: it could help me grow up.  College additionally can build people’s character.
Every girl dreams the same thing: to grow up, have a family, and live happily ever after.  I’m not saying that I don’t want that, because I do, but I want to make something of myself.  Even though I don’t exactly know what I want to be when I’m older, I think I might want to be a lawyer.  If I ever did want to be a lawyer, I would have to get really good grades and study hard.  It wouldn’t be exactly easy, but it would be possible.  I’m not a person that likes easy things; I like to have a little bit of a challenge, which being a lawyer would give me.
I image the day of receiving a college application letter over and over in my head.  College is a great place to get a further education for something I enjoy doing.  College could help me grow up and become my own person because it would teach me responsibilities.  To get there I would have to work hard on keeping my grades up.  Going to college has always been a dream of mine; a dream that I would like to become a reality.

Dailey Blogger March 19

On Tuesday, March 19, it was a normal day at O’Neill Schools.  It started out as a normal morning of walking into the lunchroom to get my normal breakfast: fruit snacks and apple juice.  Then a normal day of classes: math and science, but then in social studies, we started to talk about the Cold War.  With learning this lesson, our class is going to make a re-creation of the Rosenberg Trial.  My part in the trial is being Roy Cohn, a Prosecution lawyer.
Then the day was normal through reading, study hall, and lunch, but in English we started learning about a “Why I Want to Go to College” essay contest.  With this contest, all of the students get to write an essay persuading the UNL College for why we want to go to college and why we think college is important.  We all started off by writing a pre-write of our essay.  Our pre-write is basically how we want our essays to look and what information will be in each paragraph.
We finished off the day with a normal class of business trends and then went outside for a normal day of track.  Overall, I think I would say today was a normal day.
In the picture on the side, it shows Jason and Sabrina finishing their pre-write for the "Why I Want to Go to College" essay.

Favorite Place in NE

The rocky broken in path of the driveway comes into my peripheral view as my dad drives our pickup up towards the bright green gate with an old rusted lock on it.  As we open the gate and drive down the driveway, our tan and green cabin comes into view at the end of an oval of trees circling the main part of our ranch.  My ranch along the Niobrara River is one of my favorite places because whatever we do, we have fun doing it. Whenever we have time, my family and I like to try and head out to our ranch.  Some of the fun things we do are ride 4-wheelers, go tubing, and roast marshmallows.
Riding 4-wheelers is something fun I can do during any time of the year.  I can ride in the summer or in the winter, even though the fall is my favorite season.  The best part about riding is that I can go pretty much wherever I want.  I could go to the crystal creeks, or the black, fire-burnt tree areas.  I could go to my uncle’s ranch, being there in a blink of an eye, or to the other half of our ranch, seeming like it takes days to get there.
The clear-blue rapids of the river make me want to jump in right away.  Ignoring my instinct, I wait until I can grab a tube to float down the river peacefully.  Since the river is normally shallow, that makes our tubing trips involve a lot of walking.  Walking isn’t always a bad thing.  Water wars start and laughing begins while everyone has a great time.
Even though we don’t do it often, roasting marshmallows has always been a favorite of mine.  Just by the cabin, to the left when you go in, there’s a circle of rocks with a stick teepee in the middle of it.  My dad lights the match, making the sticks scream and burst up in flames.  The huge, fluffy marshmallows slide onto the roasting stick perfectly.  The fire slowly heats the marshmallow, making it expand like a glowing cloud.  As I put the sticky marshmallow in my mouth, it melts like butter.
Some people would think that going to a ranch in the middle of nowhere would be boring.  I don’t think so.  They obviously aren’t doing the right things.  Doing the right things isn’t everything, it’s also spending time with your family or people you enjoy being around.  Riding 4-wheelers, tubing, and roasting marshmallows is always fun, but spending time with your family is the best part.

Summer in the Middle of Nowhere

The rocky broken in path
Comes into peripheral view
The bright green gate
With an old rusted lock
The tan and green cabin
In an oval of trees

The hot black seat
Of the four-wheeled beast
Roars to life when I press
The florescent green button

Riding anywhere
Crystal creeks
To black, fire-burnt trees
Or Uncle’s ranch
There in a blink of an eye

Floating down the clear waters
Being almost put to sleep
Then water wars
And laughter begins
Everyone having a great time

Circle of rocks with a stick teepee
Lighting a match making the sticks scream
And burst up in flames
The white gooey cloud on a stick
Heats perfectly

The middle of nowhere
Spending time with your family
At our cabin near
The Niobrara River
Sitting there
Making memories
